There is a saying that goes: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap, for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune and If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”
Cheshire Homes India, a National Organization, for the last 58 years has been working for people with disabilities. They make them contributing members of Society through Residential Care, Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programs, such as Livelihood Training and Employment to sensitize the Government and the public at large. Today, the Cheshire Services in India is reaching out to around 20,000 persons in a year. It caters to the disabilities directly across 22 Districts in India.
As famous thinkers suggest, Find Happiness in helping others.
I was just about to experience happiness again.
TCS is always been taking initiatives to help these special and differently abled’s. And therefore on this occasion of Diwali, TCS came up with a donation drive. It focused on contributing money and food for young children. It involves many efforts made by many generous hearts, trying to socialize, understand and spread love. With food, clothing, shelter being the basic need for human survival, I feel that “To love and be loved” is no less than a basic need. Everything that we do, in some way, reflects our love. May be love for society, love for our beloved members or love for our self. It was a great opportunity for us to show our love to these young pure souls.
Being at the Cheshire organisation, brought out the child that we internally were. Playing with them, talking to them, tickling them brought out the best smiles I had ever seen.
In other words, it’s so easy to make them happy. And it is so easy to be happy, I realized that day. After all, happiness is like a butterfly, which gently comes to you when you stop chasing it. The hugs the small girl gave me while holding my hands, said a thousand words about how much warmth she enclosed. Aren’t we fortunate to have some beautiful things in life for free? like the beautiful carefree smiles and the lovely hugs.
Hope is what keeps the love alive. And if you need to excel in your life, no matter what, loving what you do or doing what you love is very important.
“Differently abled” only made them unique and not different.
They still had the same ability to love and understand and also would say a better perspective on life. I could sense their humbleness when they started to pray and thank God before having their daily meal.
We take the normal things we have like 2 legs, a brain, 2 eyes, a pair of hands so granted. Never do we appreciate or thank enough for being normal. I was humbler today being among the ordinary and thanked God for the things he gave me.
I hope my experience makes you realize how important it is to be grateful. Such experiences drive me to be down to earth. I thank each and every person who has been a part of this drive. It doesn’t matter if some people didn’t join us at the location but did tougher jobs of planning everything while at the desk. I really am happy to be a part of something so wonderful.
