It was Diwali , the most celebrated festival of India, the festival of lights which is thought to bring happiness and burn away all the hatredness. Separated by just one wall ,we shared quite a good bond with our neighbors and were there for each other at all times.
Time flew by and the neighbour soon got their daughter in law who did not seem much to care about the mutual bonds and relationships.
She just came back to see her in-laws for Diwali, after their relocation one year back, and while her mother-in-law was talking to one of the aunt’s on the other side of the door, being all surprised that they were back, and excited to know what the life had been like for them she carelessly closed the doors and behaved as though she never knew them.
It was highly insulting to ram the doors while the aunt was still speaking .
I felt what does it take to just see and smile to someone whom you know. They are the people who were with you from the time you grew up, helped you when you needed. It wont cost any money to speak few good words to them . If someone is making an effort to smile at you ,can’t you even acknowledge that?. Is that so difficult?
What is it that you have, that they don’t?.
Money cannot be a caring hand on your forehead when you are unwell, money cannot make coffee for you when you are all tired. You cannot eat money when you are hungry . It’s the people that can do these. It’s the people that you would love to share a coffee with along the window side when you feel sick.
Not everyone needs your money, some people need just your attention. There are only few things in life that require no effort. Acknowledging someone’s “Hi ” with a ” Hi” is the easiest way to maintain relationships.
If you want to know how wealthy you are, check how many things you have that money can’t buy. At times smile to someone whom you see everyday on that road , help someone in need, you who will feel good. Nothing will make you more satisfied than this simple deed .
I know the daily ruthless routine and the tough lifestyle has taken away all the compassion and humanity from people. Everyone has their own struggle and sorrows , and waving at a person can sometimes help them forget those sorrows. Make them happy and feel blessed.
Smile and the world Smiles with you
